Paul Dyer - RedHat Linux Administrator and Oracle DBA

As a business programmer turned systems administrator, then database administrator, I have consistently worked to keep up with new technology.   No small task.   My current job role is Oracle DBA, RedHat Administrator, SAN Administrator, Oracle tuning, and a few other things.

My newest area of interest is Virtualization and Cloud Computing.   With the enormous increase in processing power that came along with multi-core servers, Virtualization provides nearly the only way to use that power.   Two-socket servers today have 12-cores per socket, for 24 CPUs on a $8000 server!    Cloud Computing takes this a step further and gives us clusters of physical servers where Virtual Machines can balance the load and failover.

I am an avid bicycler and exercise 5 days per week, but at this stage in life, I enjoy woodworking as a hobby.   My wood projects have started small, building a pegboard, router table and workbench.   I have learned the skills and precision needed for routing dados and rabbets, but not without learning patience along the way.
